Poetry about the Pink House

I'm gathering poems about the Charles Pink House...have you ever been to a teen program there? Maybe teen writers, teen advisory board, or other teen activities? Put your feelings, memories into a poem and send it to me or come to a concrete poetry workshop on Monday, August 1 from 2-4pm at the Pink House. The poems will be displayed on the walls of the house on August 27 during the groundbreaking ceremony for the remodel.

Beauty Queens is making me laugh out loud!

Libby Bray's new book, Beauty Queens, is amazingly funny. She takes on corporate America, beauty pageants, dictators, and the state of Texas in one hilarious romp. The premise...a plane filled with teen beauty contestants crashes on a "deserted" island. (yeah, it's not really deserted.) Miss Texas declares herself the leader and decides they will continue to practice their routines and beauty regimens while building shelters and finding food. Her personal motto? "God made me beautiful. The least I can do is share it with the world." Get yourself on the request list for this one soon. You won't be sorry.

Tailehaser's Song by Tad Williams

When I read this book, I couldn't put it down! I easily fell in love with the adventurous story line and characters. At first, I didn't want it to end, but the ending was just right for anyone, including you. Reviewed by Ari, age 13.

Phantom Stallion, Kidnapped Colt by Terri Farley

I like this book because it has emotions. I really like Jake because he is a person that is quiet, helpful, and also sarcastic. If I wrote this book, I would call it the Appaloosa Mystery. I want to be Jake because he is someone I really like in the story. Reviewed by Moon, age 12.

The True Meaning of Smekday is about a girl whose mom is taken by aliens. Together, she and a Boov named J.Lo try to find her mom. My favorite character was J.Lo because he was the only nice alien. You would like this book if you like science fiction. Kaya would recommend this book to a friend! She gives if 4 stars...couldn't put it down. Reviewed by Kaya, age 11.
